Melbourne: Where to Brunch

May 1, 2018

We quickly realised that the Melbourne culture is all about eating out and drinking out, and that the weekends generally are all about brunching in the city. The tricky thing is picking a place to eat.. because there are just SO many to choose from. Here's our guide to the top 5 places for a scrummy breakfast.

Operator25: CBD

This is a brunch cafe and coffee hangout inside an early 1900s building that housed Melbourne's first switchboard. They have an all-day brunch menu, and the plates are almost too pretty to eat!

Higher Ground: CBD

This was one of our favourites, the building itself is incredible. High ceilings, and a super trendy interior, Higher Ground can have up to 1hour wait lines on weekends! Described as ‘not quite a cafe, not quite a restaurant’, the menu has so much to offer… we particularly recommend the minced lamb fry up with smoked yoghurt. It also has an insane dinner and cocktail menu which we can’t wait to try out.

Fitzrovia: St. Kilda

Definitely one of our favourite spots. It has a whole outside area with cute tables and good music playing all morning. The brunch menu has a lot on offer but our favourite is definitely the sweet potato and onion fritters w/ poached eggs and saganaki !

Combi: Elwood

Combi is a raw cafe offering amazing breakfast bowls, and nutritious filling smoothies. The perfect spot for someone craving a healthy brunch.

JourneyMan: Prahran

This Chapel Street hangout has an unreal brunch menu… We particularly recommend the butter milk waffles. They also have a few outside tables so it’s ideal for a morning coffee watching the world buzz by.

Jerry’s Milk Bar: Elwood

Situated in the cute family suburb Elwood, you can find this modern Aussie cafe with an insane menu to choose from. It’s a little out the way and definitely a hidden gem, but 100% worth the trip.
